Changing technology
Of all the materials you use to market your business, the most important one to keep current is your website. Technology is being improved and updated all the time. Not only are there always new and better ways to market your business on the web, but trends in the industry can make or break your business. Search engines change their criteria constantly and if your business depends on people finding you via Google, you’d better be keeping up with these trends. We’re not recommending that you grab on to every bandwagon that goes by — there are a lot of them. But some of them are important and reflect a changing industry, not just a passing fad. A professional web development company keeps abreast of these changes and can advise you on which are important to you and your company. In order to keep up with changes in the industry, we recommend revisiting your website every 3 years.
Update your copy
Also important, is changing the content of your site on a regular basis. When websites first came into focus, the typical website was an online brochure. You put up you logo, some photos and some copy, and there it sat for 5 years, job done. This is not advisable today. One of the main ways that your site is found on search engines is through the copy on your site — particularly changing copy. We recommend developing a plan to update content on your site at least 6-12x per year, possibly through incorporating a blog or enewsletter into your site. Other ideas are communicating to your clients through uploading whitepapers, podcasts or videos, depending on what you’re comfortable with. Take advantage of the changes in technology to help you keep up.
