"Del Griffith, the Real Article" with portrait of John Candy.

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for Del Griffith, the character played by the late, great John Candy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, 1987. Del is the everyman – the jolly, midwestern salesman who has a talent for making the best of a terrible situation. Down-home witticisms at the ready, he merrily makes lemons from lemonade, silk purses from sows ears, fashion statement earrings from shower curtain rings. After the last couple years, we can all be inspired by Del’s indomitable spirit. As Del stated:

My wife likes me. My customers like me. ‘Cause I’m the real article. What you see is what you get.

WYSIWYG. True authenticity. Something to strive for. Happy thanksgiving to all!
